It’s true that “Healthy living starts between your ears.” Living your best life is a mental and spiritual game first. I discovered this after repeated frustrations of quitting good habits even when they were working for me. The problem is I didn’t have a healthy and positive mindset about what I was doing and why. Once the motivation waned, or it got really hard, I would revert back to old, lazy ways of thinking and being.
That’s why I make these short, impactful videos: to remind ME of what mental fitness looks like with advice I can use to help me be my best. I hope they are helpful to you.

This is one of my favorite concepts for conquering my mind. It’s not new, but one of my favorite movies of all time, Bill Murray’s “What About Bob?” explains it perfectly. The idea, of course, is to take something big and scary and turn it into very small, simple, incremental steps toward it.

MFTOD 49 FORGIVE YOURSELF
If I’m to live free, to be confident with healthy self-esteem, and to sincerely love and serve others well, I must be able to forgive myself for my mistakes – even the really ugly ones. Cuz from my experience, I know for sure that when I don’t forgive myself, I feel really down, discouraged, depressed, insecure, unlovable, and worthless. It’s not possible to love others well when I feel like that, or even be a person others want to be around.
MFTOD 50 CONFIDENCE
…as one whose wasted a lot of time, energy, and money on the wrong ways to get confidence, I can tell you from personal experience. It’s surely not from achieving the goal, getting the salary, buying the car, or wearing yourself out to win approval and acceptance from others. Been there, done that. It’s exhausting. I’m still working on it.
MFTOD 51 VICTIM OR VICTIM
Life is not simple. We face many bumps and turns along the way. The race is real, the battle continuous, and the painful experiences may pierce our hearts. However, our circumstances should not define who we are or how we react. Rather, as believers our behavior in every situation should honor the Lord Jesus, and our identity should always be based on the salvation He has provided for us.
MFTOD 52 SEEK
What do you seek? We all seek something. We are in seeking mode all the time. You will always find what you are looking for. This is a powerful idea that can work for you or against you.
MFTOD 53 YOU
Others are a mirror. A reflection of you. Want others to change? Work on you.
MFTOD 54 BOREDOM
We often become really uncomfortable with boredom feeling like there must me something MORE that must be done NOW. Or we may think that boredom means we need to change what we are doing. Maybe we just need to change our minds about boredom. What do you think?
MFTOD 55 RUN
I realized that whether or not you run sprints at the track or jog through your neighborhood, we are all runners. That’s right. We are all running TO something or away FROM something regularly. Maybe not by stepping one foot in front of the other literally, but between our ears we are all runners.
MFTOD 56 PRACTICE
You have heard it said practice makes perfect. Then someone will correct it and say, “no….perfect practice makes perfect.” What they mean of course is that if you are practicing the wrong thing or in the wrong way – poor technique, out of sequence, negative mindset, etc. then you will never get to perfect. It’s good advice. But I was thinking about practice in a different way.
MFTOD 57 PLANKEYE
Let’s stop making lame excuses for our flaws, failures, and mistakes. Let’s own our mistakes, make sincere apology wherever needed, and work to grow and be better.

Humility acknowledges the truth that we don’t have it all together and we need help. It’s healthy to think this way, especially when we call upon our Creator to help us.

MFTOD 60 MARGIN
Do you often have a list of things you just can’t get to because you’re so busy? Maybe you’re tired. Or more like exhausted. You find yourself running frantically on the hamster wheel of life doing your work – meaningful work even. Do you ever think, “Is this all there is to life?” Creating margin in your life can help. Here’s a few ideas how.
MFTOD 61 STRENGTH
Have you ever felt like you just can’t do it anymore? You are out of strength. You are exhausted, frustrated, and discouraged because things just aren’t working out like you thought? You will get good at whatever you practice. Consistency compounds. Watch my story here.
MFTOD 63 PRAYER
Everybody prays. Regardless of the faith system, people pray. And good news: prayer is great. I believe it’s among the healthiest habits a person can have. Prayer reflects our hearts desire to express gratitude and humbly ask for help. When we are desperate and at the end of our rope, we pray. When we need help that we can’t seem to get elsewhere, we pray. And sometimes when something good happens, or disaster is avoided, we may even say out loud, “Thank God.” Everybody prays. But do you ever wonder why your prayers aren’t answered?
